Sheila Appel serves as the Chief of Staff to the Senior Location Executive at IBM Poughkeepsie, NY. In addition, she is also the Program Director for Employee Engagement, where she oversees initiatives that drive employee participation in community service and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Sheila is recognized as a top leader in New York, known for her strategic vision and commitment to leveraging IBM's technological expertise for social good. With a deep background in philanthropy, volunteerism, and public policy, Sheila is passionate about creating sustainable impact through innovative solutions. Her work includes fostering partnerships with nonprofits, educational institutions, and government agencies to address critical social issues.

Sheila is a highly accomplished professional recognized for her significant contributions to both her industry and community. Her accolades include being selected by New York State Senator Steve Saland as a New York State “Woman of Distinction”, and receiving the “Business Person of the Year” award from the Future Business Leaders of America. Her commitment to empowering others was also honored with the YWCA Salute to Women Award.

Sheila’s dedication to education and leadership is further exemplified by her induction into the Dutchess Community College Hall of Fame, where she was named Alumni of the Year in 2009. Her continued excellence in service was recognized by Marist College, which presented her with the prestigious President’s Award in 2011.

In addition to her numerous accolades, Sheila is the current Board Chair of Workforce Development and holds the esteemed title of Board Member Emeritus for Dutchess Community College.

There is nothing more important to Sheila than her family, the greatest joy is to spend time with them especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter.
