David Coe recently retired from thirty years of serving blind veterans at the VA Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida and West Haven, Connecticut. As a rehab instructor, he spent many hours creating projects in the manual skills department, cooking in the kitchen, equipping veterans to make full use of their IPhones, and teaching as many new skills as an individual wanted to learn and experience. Prior to his service with the VA, David spent a few years working for the Royal New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, helping to develop a masters degree program to train rehab instructors & serving as an itinerant teacher for visually impaired New Zealanders, while doing some bungy jumping and meeting up with Ham Radio operators on the side.
David lost his sight at eight years old. This has not stopped him from living a life full of adventure, including scuba diving, managing homeless shelters, traveling, sharing his guide dog with school children, and talking with new friends around the world on Ham Radio. Now that he is retired from the VA, he is ready for more traveling and making new connections. David enjoys networking and consulting with individuals and consumer organizations, to spread awareness and help motivate people with visual impairments to know about all the resources available to them. He enjoys inspiring individuals to learn and grow.
David is married to Katherine, whom he met in the late 1980s while they were volunteering at the suicide crisis center in Keene, New Hampshire. They have two awesome sons.
