Apple Partners with Airlines to Track Luggage

Subject: Travel

Apple's partnership with major airlines, including Delta, United, and British Airways, is set to revolutionize luggage tracking for travelers. Starting in 2024, passengers will be able to use Apple’s Find My app in conjunction with AirTags to track their luggage in real-time, with airlines now able to access that location data to help reunite travelers with their lost bags.

For years, travelers have used AirTags to track their luggage, but without direct integration with airlines, the process of locating missing bags remained cumbersome. Passengers could see where their bags were, but airlines had no access to that information. This new partnership solves that problem by allowing passengers to generate a secure link from the Find My app, which can then be shared with airline customer service. The airlines will use this link to track the bag’s location on an interactive map, updating in real time as new location data becomes available.

The collaboration includes over 15 major airlines worldwide, such as Lufthansa, Qantas, and Virgin Atlantic. United Airlines plans to roll out this feature in select airports by early 2025, while Delta aims to support the service later in 2024. This new system offers increased efficiency and transparency for travelers, reducing the frustration of missing luggage.

This partnership not only enhances customer experience but also strengthens Apple’s ecosystem, offering a practical and valuable application for Find My and AirTags. With the new integration, the risk of luggage mishandling becomes easier to resolve, providing peace of mind for those traveling during busy seasons or across long distances. It’s another step toward smarter, more connected travel.
